Merit stars for work after fifty years of professional service

In the hall of the Prefecture of Pistoia, an honor was awarded to two long-time employees, Giovanni Niccolai and Doriana Pinochi, from the company M.G.M. Motori Elettrici of Serravalle Pistoiese.

The honorary title was awarded to Doriana Pinochi and Giovanni Niccolai, long-standing employees of M.G.M. Motori Elettrici, a company specializing since 1947 in the production of electric brake motors, based in Serravalle Pistoiese, Italy. The two have worked for over 50 years in the administrative section of MGM, and they have been – and still are – two pillars of the company and trusted collaborators of the founder, Engineer Carlo Ghieri, and later his children Lucia, Edoardo, and Francesco, who now lead the company after the father’s passing.

Before the pandemic the honor, consisting of a certificate and a star, was awarded annually on May 1st by the authorities at the regional level in Florence, in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio, to workers who stood out on the national level for their moral, professional, cultural merits, expertise and industriousness. Due to the current epidemiological situation, the award ceremony took place exceptionally in the representative halls of the Prefecture – located at Piazza S. Leone, 1 in Pistoia – on December 22, 2021, at 5:30 PM. During the ceremony, the “Merit Stars for Work” and the Honors of the Order “For the Merit of the Italian Republic” were awarded to citizens residing in this province, in the presence of the mayor and authorities.

For the year 2020, the title of Master of Work was awarded to Dr. Doriana Pinochi, residing in Pieve a Nievole. She stood out for exceptional merits in expertise, industriousness and disciplinary behavior within the company, specifically:

  • She has always worked to improve the company’s operations through dedication and continuous effort.
  • Her experience and professionalism have been passed on to others, particularly through the training of young people.
  • Throughout her long career, she has maintained excellent relationships with both her superiors and colleagues.

Statement by Doriana Pinochi: “I am happily proud to have reached this milestone. I’ve been working at M.G.M. Motori Elettrici Spa for almost 52 years, and over the years, I’ve often heard people say ‘You’ll see they won’t give you the medal!’… But the Merit Star has arrived. I must thank my employers, Lucia, Edoardo and Francesco Ghieri, for everything, and I say that the greatness of my company is measured not only by the quality of what we produce but also by the professionalism and availability of the owners and colleagues.”

For the year 2021 the title of Master of Work was awarded to Accountant Giovanni Niccolai, residing in Larciano. He distinguished himself for his exceptional merits in professionalism, expertise, industriousness, and moral conduct within the company, specifically:

  • He has always worked to improve the company’s operations through dedication and continuous effort.
  • He played a key role in the generational transition of the company’s management.
  • His experience and professionalism have been passed on to others, particularly through the training of young people.
  • Throughout his long career, he has maintained excellent relationships with both his superiors and colleagues.

Statement by Giovanni Niccolai: “I thank the President of the Republic and the Minister of Labor for granting me this important recognition. A special thanks to the Ghieri brothers: Dr. Lucia, Engineer Edoardo, and Engineer Francesco, who researched and submitted the documentation of my entire working life, allowing me to receive this significant medal. Thank you all from the heart.”

Statement from MGM: “The presence of these individuals has always been felt in the company, both with our father and with us. They have always been close to us, especially in critical moments, such as the generational transition. Our company system is family-oriented; all employees are considered as individuals, not just numbers, and they represent the greatest resource we have. Because alone you go fast, but together you reach farther goals. We are happy and proud of this milestone achieved!”
