The Company - M.G.M. Motori Elettrici S.p.a.

M.G.M. Motori Elettrici S.p.A. was founded in 1947. Right from the start the company specialised in the production of electric brake motors, becoming one of the leader companies in this industry.

In Italy M.G.M. Motori Elettrici has the main production plant in Serravalle Pistoiese and a warehouse with sales offices in Assago (Milan). In North America the company is present in Montreal (Canada) and in Detroit (Usa). M.G.M. Motori Elettrici is also present in Chennai (India) with a plant for India sales, technical support and distribution and in Izmir (Turkey).

Around the world M.G.M. Motori Elettrici is present in more than 75 countries with its own structures for sales and assistance.

OUR HISTORY

More than 70 years ago, after the World War II, M.G.M. Motori Elettrici production included only few models than today.

Next to the Italian price column there was stated the american one in US dollars. This column was blank and often updated due to the USD rate and the inflation.

The first M.G.M. Motori Elettrici brake motors and the autograph of our founder Ing. Carlo Ghieri.

The first brake motors were military green since the paints used were those left by in Italy by the american
soldiers, after the Second World War.

Later the motors were blue, the color that marks our brand.

1926

Carlo Ghieri, founder of M.G.M. Motori Elettrici, was born in Monsummano in 1926. He studied mechanical engineering and at the age of 20 he began to work in his father’s company. The family business initially produces various types of machinery and later standard electric motors.

1947

M.G.M. Motori Elettrici is born in Monsummano Terme (PT) and the first examples of brake motors were produced. Later Carlo Ghieri will decide, once left alone in the company and driven by the the success of this type of motor in the market, that M.G.M. Motori Elettrici should mainly focus on the production of brake motors.

2022

1968

Opening of the first warehouse with sales offices in Milan, followed by following relocations up to the current one in Assago.

1970

The production plant was moved to Serravalle Pistoiese (PT). Few years later it was made the first expansion.

1984

The millionth brake motor of the CF series is produced.

1988

The BM and BA series of brake motors were born.

1996

M.G.M. Motori Elettrici obtains the ISO 9001 certification among the first companies in Italy in its sector.

1998

The foreign market share becomes increasingly important, in particular the North America one, for this reason the brake motors range is CSA certified. Other product certifications will come after for other countries in the world (CCC, EAC, BIS etc.).

2002

Serravalle Pistoiese plant second expansion.

2006

The first overseas branch was launched in Montreal, Canada.

2008

Opening of USA branch. Later moved in 2015 to Detroit (USA).

Opening of MGM-VARVEL Power Transmission Pvt. Ltd. in Chennai, India.

BS OHSAS 18001 certification of the management system for safety and health at work.

The room of the assembly of the Pistoia headquarters of Confindustria Toscana Nord was dedicated to Carlo Ghieri, founder of M.G.M. Motori Elettrici.

M.G.M. Motori Elettrici testing laboratory qualification according to the SMTC-ISO 17025 program. M.G.M. Motori Elettrici laboratory is authorized to make out the safety and efficiency required tests on motors to obtain CSA certifications for North America.

A geothermal system is built to support the air conditioning and the heating of the plant of Serravalle Pistoiese.
